U-20 WWC: Ghana suffer defeat to United States in group opener

The Black Princesses of Ghana were mauled in Alajuela as they succumbed to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of the United States of America in their opening game of the tournament. .

A quick transition and some sleek passes opened up Ghana’s back line before Michelle Cooper connected with her head from a Laney Rouse cross to give the U.S the lead.

Moments later, Jacqueline Owusu was sent off after a VAR check for a foul on Korbin Albert to reduce Ghana’s numbers.

Soon after the red card, Michelle Cooper turned provider as Alyssa Thompson doubled the lead for the USA before half-time.

After the break, Ally Sentnor increased the goal margin to three to deny Ghana any hope of a comeback.

Ghana thought their number was reduced to nine after Cecilia Nyama was sent off but a VAR check overturned the decision to a yellow card.
