Insurance: TAGG partners NIC; shows commitment to insure 7,000 members

The Traders Advocacy Group Ghana (TAGG) has called on the National Insurance Commission (NIC), the Insurance Brokers Association of Ghana (IBAG) and the Ghana Insurance Association (GIA) to help insure its members.

The call on the NIC, IBAG and GIA is aimed at developing tailored insurance policies for members of TAGG.

It is also to ensure that all members of TAGG are roped into the insurance industry.

Addressing a press briefing on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, President of TAGG, David Kwadwo Amoateng noted that TAGG is ever ready to partner the NIC and help ensure its members are insured against risks.

“Most traders are not insured because they have not been educated about insurance and its relevance and that is why they are not doing it.

“But if you educate them about the benefits of  insurance, they will definitely sign onto it,” remarked Mr Amoateng.

“So insurance companies should not say that traders are difficult to deal with and all that, we do want to insure our businesses and mitigate risks,” he added.

Also speaking at the press briefing was the Commissioner of Insurance, Dr Justice Ofori, who assured the President and members of TAGG, that the Commission will work hand-in-hand with the Insurance Brokers Association of Ghana (IBAG) and the Ghana Insurance Association (GIA) to develop tailored insurance products for traders.

“We are ever ready to help you insure all members of TAGG, and in view of that we are ready to design tailored insurance products for your members, and so let us know what the needs of your members are and we will develop products to suit them,” remarked Dr Justice Ofori.

Insuring all 7,000 members of TAGG will help further deepen insurance penetration in the country which currently stands at 1 percent.

TAGG has over 7,000 registered members spread across the 16 regions of the country.

The Group is responsible for protecting the trade rights of its members.
