MTN Signs $2m Sponsorship Deal with GFA to Boost Ghana’s Football Ambitions

Ghana’s football development has received a significant boost with MTN Ghana signing a $2 million sponsorship agreement with the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

The two-year partnership, effective September 1, 2025, to August 31, 2027, makes MTN the headline sponsor of the Black Stars, Black Queens, Black Satellites, Black Starlets, and the U-19 Elite Championship.

Unveiling the deal in Accra, MTN Ghana CEO, Stephen Blewett, said the investment underscored the company’s long-standing commitment to youth empowerment and sports development.
“This is more than a sponsorship. It is about national pride, gender inclusion, and building a sustainable future for football in Ghana,” he stated.

GFA President, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, welcomed the investment as a “timely intervention,” stressing that it would improve the quality of preparation for national teams competing on the global stage.

Chief Director at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Wilhemina Asamoah, described the agreement as “very significant,” noting that it eased the financial burden on government while providing a model for greater corporate participation in sports.

MTN’s association with Ghanaian football is longstanding, having sponsored the MTN FA Cup since 2010 and supported the Black Stars’ 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign in Qatar.
