WKHKYD? Probably the popular question asked so far in Ghana

Wo kɔ hɔ kɔ yɛ dɛn? It’s a popular Ghanaian phrase in the widely spoken Twi language to imply “I told you so” when things backfire.

It is loosely translated in English as “who sent you there?” or “what did you go there to do?”

The origin

Wo k) h) k) y3 den? Is often asked in the West African country when someone ends up in a terrible situation for being at the wrong place at the wrong time.

The craze started when the video of a young man emerged advising people using iPhones to be smart when going out to have fun during the Christmas season. Some see it as the way for introspection.

A TikToker named @star_gee was the person behind the #WKHKYD hashtag, which has now become a national craze and has taken over the trends on social media in Ghana.

Others have also started making t-shirts with this hashtag. A music artiste has even composed a song about this hashtag that has been trending as well.

Importance of introspection in life

It is fair to assume that asking yourself Wo k) h) k) y3 den? could lead to self introspection before undertaking any life adventure.

Introspection is the study of your own conscious thoughts and feelings and examining your higher self, or soul; the process of introspection relies on the observation of your mental state.

Someone who is introspective would be described as always analysing their own actions. It can also be explained as examining your perceptions and sensory experiences, as well as the act of contemplation or being thoughtful about yourself.

Introspection is self-examination by looking at your own personality and actions and considering your personal motivations.

A simple example of introspection would be meditating, especially meditation to understand your feelings deeper.‍

So whatever you do today be sure to ask yourself “Wo k) h) k) y3 den?” first.
