Luis Enrique Aims for Historic Unbeaten Ligue 1 Campaign with PSG

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is on the brink of clinching their fourth consecutive Ligue 1 title, needing just a draw against Angers on Saturday. Coach Luis Enrique is not only targeting the championship but also aiming to achieve an unprecedented unbeaten season in the league.

With seven matches remaining, PSG is also focused on their quest for a first Champions League title, set to face Aston Villa in the first leg of their quarterfinal tie on Wednesday. “I wasn’t interested in records until now, but of course, we want to go unbeaten throughout the season,” Enrique stated in a press conference. “We don’t just want to be champions; we want to be competitive and perform well. We aim to improve our records and statistics.”

Enrique emphasized the importance of continuous improvement for both individual players and the team as a whole. “We are trying to train in a way that can be reflected in matches. It’s a collective sport, so reaching the highest level is very challenging,” he added.

While the focus is on the upcoming match against 14th-placed Angers, Enrique also acknowledged the threat posed by Aston Villa, managed by former PSG coach Unai Emery. Villa is currently riding a six-match winning streak in all competitions. “I know about Unai Emery and his ability to analyze opponents and strengthen his teams. He’s a top coach,” Enrique said. “They are a more complete team this season.”

In addition to league and Champions League aspirations, Enrique is also motivated by PSG’s participation in the upcoming Club World Cup, where they are the sole French representatives. “We are representing France, and that is an extra source of motivation for us,” he remarked.

Despite the club’s past struggles in Europe, including a loss in the 2019-20 Champions League final and a semifinal exit last season, Enrique remains determined. “We want to show that we are competitive, and we have been competitive in Europe for many years,” he stated. “We want to be an outstanding team on the global stage.”
