  • GFIM Records GH¢288.12m in Trading as DDEP Bonds Draw Strong Activity

Trading activity on the Ghana Fixed Income Market closed strongly on Wednesday, May 28, 2026, with total market volume reaching GH¢288.12 million, driven largely by sell-buy back transactions in government bonds.

According to the GFIM trading report, total market activity stood at GH¢288,122,030 across 133 trades, with sell-buy back transactions accounting for the largest share of turnover.

Sell-buy back trades in Government of Ghana notes and bonds recorded GH¢168.44 million across seven trades, representing more than half of total market turnover for the session.

The most active sell-buy back instrument was GOG-BD-10/02/32-A6148-1838-9.10, which recorded GH¢167.54 million across two trades, with a yield of 13.72 per cent and a weighted average closing price of 82.0296.

DDEP bonds also saw significant activity, recording GH¢95.19 million across four trades, making them the second-largest contributor to market turnover.

The largest DDEP bond transaction was recorded in GOG-BD-16/02/27-A6143-1838-8.35, which traded GH¢94 million across two deals. The instrument closed at a yield of 10.5 per cent and an end-of-day closing price of 98.5026.

Another DDEP instrument, GOG-BD-15/02/28-A6144-1838-8.50, recorded GH¢1.19 million in volume across two trades, closing at a yield of 9.8 per cent and a price of 97.9563.

Treasury bills recorded GH¢24.44 million in volume across 120 trades, maintaining their role as the most frequently traded instrument category on the market.

The largest Treasury bill trade came from GOG-BL-19/10/26-A7014-2003-0, which recorded GH¢12.79 million across eight trades. The bill closed at a yield of 6.1671 per cent and a closing price of 97.6184.

Corporate bonds recorded modest activity, with total volume of GH¢53,000 across two trades.

The most active corporate bond was CMB-BD-30/08/27-A6302-1675-13.00, issued by Ghana Cocoa Board, which recorded GH¢50,000 in volume from one trade and closed at a price of 98.2693.

The session recorded no outright trading in new Government of Ghana notes and bonds or old Government of Ghana notes and bonds.

The day’s activity suggests that liquidity on the fixed income market remains concentrated in structured government bond transactions, DDEP instruments and short-dated Treasury bills.

For investors, the dominance of sell-buy back trades points to continued demand for liquidity management tools, while the activity in DDEP bonds indicates that the restructured debt market remains a key area of price discovery.

The strong volume in Treasury bills also reflects continued investor interest in shorter-duration instruments, even as yields remain significantly lower than levels seen during the peak of Ghana’s debt and inflation crisis.

Overall, the May 28 session showed a market still shaped by liquidity positioning, cautious duration exposure and active trading in post-restructuring government securities.
