President Mahama Appoints Eight-Member Committee to Organize National Education Forum

President John Mahama has appointed an eight-member committee to oversee the organization of the highly anticipated National Education Forum, a statement from the Presidency disclosed on Sunday, February 2.

The committee, chaired by Professor George K. T. Oduro, a former Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, has been tasked with developing a comprehensive plan for the forum within two weeks.

The distinguished members of the committee include Professor Goski Alabi, Professor Rosemary Bosu, Dr. Samuel Awuku, and Professor Smile Dzisi, alongside Kofi Asare, Stephen Owusu, and Inusah Shiraz.

Their primary mandate is to develop a strategic framework for engaging key stakeholders in the education sector and laying the groundwork for a new national education policy. The committee’s responsibilities include:

  • Developing a central theme and sub-themes to guide discussions at the forum.
  • Identifying and involving critical stakeholders such as students, parents, teachers, researchers, civil society organizations, development partners, religious groups, political parties, chiefs, and educational institutions.
  • Proposing a venue, dates, and a detailed budget for the forum.
  • Crafting an agenda for stakeholder engagement, including thematic breakout sessions and plenary discussions.
  • Establishing a secretariat to document proceedings, compile a comprehensive report with key findings and recommendations, and draft a national education policy framework.

Additionally, within three weeks after the forum, the committee is expected to develop an action plan to implement the recommendations made during the discussions.

The National Education Forum is anticipated to bring together a wide array of education experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to deliberate on the challenges facing Ghana’s education system and propose reforms aimed at improving the sector.
