Virgin Atlantic Announces Return to Ghana with Daily Flights from May 2025
Virgin Atlantic is set to return to Ghana for the first time since 2013, with plans to launch daily flights to Kotoka International Airport in Accra starting May 1, 2025.
The airline’s return aims to bolster competition on a route that has seen limited options, catering primarily to the UK’s substantial Ghanaian diaspora, which ranks as the third largest globally.
The new service responds to a growing demand for travel among friends and relatives, a crucial market segment that Virgin Atlantic is eager to capture.
Additionally, the airline anticipates that approximately 10% of its customers will connect through London to its New York JFK service, enhancing the overall travel experience for passengers.
Operating on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the new flights will offer a range of cabin classes, including Upper Class, Premium, and Economy options—Delight, Classic, and Light—alongside an onboard bar.
The introduction of this route is not only focused on passenger traffic; Virgin Atlantic is also positioning itself to take advantage of the cargo potential.
Each flight is expected to carry 30 tonnes of cargo capacity, facilitating the transport of goods, including fresh produce, between Ghana and key markets in the UK and US.
As Virgin Atlantic prepares for this pivotal return, the airline aims to not only meet the needs of travelers but also to solidify its presence in a market ripe for growth.
