“Tell us how to truly move from taxation to production” – IMANI boss urges Bawumia on February 7 national address

Franklin Cudjoe, the founding President of IMANI Ghana, has articulated his expectations for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s national address on his vision for Ghana, scheduled for February 7, 2024, at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).

This is in view of the Vice President’s bid to run for president this year – 2024.

Mr Cudjoe emphasized the need for Dr. Bawumia’s promises to reflect bold solutions for the future, urging a departure from the practices of President Akufo-Addo’s administration.

He highlighted several concerns, including excessive spending on procurement-driven projects, questionable tax exemptions, bloated government machinery, and a perceived lack of respect for the rule of law.

Furthermore, Mr Cudjoe called for concrete plans on how Dr. Bawumia intends to transition Ghana from a taxation-based economy to one focused on production, as well as strategies to avoid another debt restructuring in 2025.

“And please no laughter, no Mahama jabs and jokes. We are at war, economic and governance war to defeat the ills in the last 4 years. Boldness and truth are required. You can and it is possible. Now speak. May it be worth our while,” he added.

Mr Cudjoe’s remarks underscore the expectations of many Ghanaians for transparent, accountable, and forward-thinking governance, emphasizing the need for practical solutions to address economic challenges and uphold the rule of law.

Read details of Mr Cudjoe’s post below:

February 7, 2024. 4:00PM @UPSA. I look forward to listening to what Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia promises to be “selfless leadership and bold solutions for the future”. It better be different from what his boss served us in terms of cost,[ needless multi-million dollar procurement-driven projects, questionable crony-capitalist tax exemptions- 12.5bn cedis alone in 2024 when we expect to generate 11bn cedis, bloated Office of Government Machinery drawing 100% more funds in 2024, a year of apparent austerity]. No respect for the rule of law [Justice for SALL, no chasing and punching down anti-corruption tsars like Auditor-General, OSP, independent activists and finding the killers of Ahmed Suale and 7 killed in election 2020], passive aggressive behaviour in fighting monumental graft and theft, [ setting up ineffective investigations]. Above all, please tell us how to truly move the country from taxation to production and how to avoid another debt restructuring in 2025. And please no laughter, no Mahama jabs and jokes. We are at war, economic and governance war to defeat the ills in the last 4 years. Boldness and truth are required. You can and it is possible. Now speak. May it be worth our while.

To me Bawumia has nothing to offer the nation and can’t think and change things especially when things go bad, the economic hardship is increasing, the dollar rates have taken us to the old currency,

The mischief makers are at it again, the naysayers will soon find their voices after February 7th 2024. But, they will be greatly disappointed because their evil plot will backfire. They will soon develop goose pimples and be mesmerized.by authentic facts not fiction.

The real meaning of taxation to production is found in NPP manifesto of 2016.. The reduction of 17 taxes was to boost production and was further strengthen by the reduction of import duty by 50% on raw materials and selected items. This question is dead on arrival.

Anybody preparing a national address doesn’t need to be pressured to include topics they’ve not planned for.. When think tank bodies in Ghana relinquish their function of providing expert advice and ideas on specific political and economic problems confronting the country in a fair manner; but rather choose to show obvious bias, the think tank groups will loss their credibility and outlive their relevance..

Another avenue to lie again. Give way.
