WAEC releases 2021 WASSCE  provisional results

The West African Examination Council [WAEC] has released the provisional results for candidates who wrote the 2021 West African Senior School Certificate Examination [WASSCE].

The Council in a press release noted that login details to aid in printing of the results will be made available to the students through their various school heads, however, candidates who wish to check online can do so by visiting the council’s website with the short code *944#.

In addition, the Council cautioned all stakeholders especially the candidates to be on alert and not fall prey to the cunning activities of scammers with the promise of upgrading their result for free.

Various institutions are also advised to verify results presented to them by candidates in order to expose any forgery.

The council added that a total number of 446,352 candidates wrote this year’s examination, indicating a 18.8% increase as compared to the 375,763 that wrote last year.

The Council noted that, as compared to last year’s performance there was improvement in grades obtained by candidates in that from Grade A1 to C6 in integrated science and social studies, the performance of candidates saw an increase from 52.53% and 64.3% in 2020 to 65.70% and 66.03% in 2021 respectively. 

On the other hand, English language and mathematics recorded a decline in the performance of candidates with Grades A1 to C6 falling from 54.08% and 54.11% in 2020 to 57.34% and 65.71% in 2021 respectively.  

The Council furthered that, a total number of 1,339 subject results and an entire 174 results were cancelled for various examination malpractices with 3,667 entire results of candidates also withheld pending the conclusion of examination malpractices investigation during and after the conduct of the examination.

Lastly, the council expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Education Service, the security agencies and examiners for the cooperation during the conduct of the examination and the release of the results.
