Azamati, Aggerh and Boakye reach 100m finals at African Games

Three Ghanaian athletes are set to chase gold in the men’s and women’s 100m finals at the ongoing 13th African Games in Accra, Ghana.

Benjamin Azamati and Barnabas Aggerh dominated the men’s semi-finals, showcasing impressive speed. Azamati clocked a time of 10.41 seconds in Semi-Final 2, while Aggerh finished in 10.42 seconds in Semi-Final 1. Both will vie for victory against top competitors like Cameroonian Eseme Emmanuel Alobwede (10.23 seconds) and Nigerian Ekanem Consider Emmanuel (10.37 seconds).

Mary Boakye is Ghana’s sole representative in the women’s 100m finals. Her journey began with a second-place finish in Heat 3, clocking 11.50 seconds. While she maintained a commendable performance of 11.64 seconds in the semi-finals, it placed her third behind Njarasoa Claudine (Madagascar) and Bass Bittaye Gina Mariam (The Gambia).

While Hor Halutie, Kwartemaa Benedicta, and Ansah Sarfo narrowly missed the finals, Ghana remains well-represented. All eyes will be on Azamati, Aggerh, and Boakye as they chase podium finishes on Tuesday (19 March) at the University of Ghana (UG) Sports Stadium.
