Online Poll Shows Ghanaians’ Negative Sentiment Towards Government’s Handling of Galamsey Crisis

Tens of thousands of Ghanaians have voiced their outrage over the severe consequences of illegal mining, commonly referred to as ‘galamsey,’ on the country’s water bodies and environment.

This widespread dissatisfaction highlights the government’s noticeable failure to effectively address the issue.

An online poll conducted by rateyoursociety.com indicates a prevailing negative sentiment among Ghanaians regarding the galamsey crisis, with respondents expressing a range of emotions including anger, sadness, and disgust.

Illegal small-scale mining has emerged as one of Ghana’s most critical environmental challenges.

Despite numerous initiatives aimed at mitigating this crisis, galamsey continues to inflict significant damage on the nation’s waterways, forests, and overall ecosystem.
