World Bank Reaffirms Support for Ghana’s Development Agenda
The Managing Director and Chief Administrative Officer of the World Bank Group, Wencai Zhang, on Friday paid a courtesy call on Ghana’s Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, at the Ministry of Finance in Accra.
The high-level meeting centred on strengthening cooperation between Ghana and the World Bank in critical sectors including agriculture, transportation, and energy—areas described by Dr. Forson as vital to the country’s long-term economic transformation.
Dr. Forson used the opportunity to appeal for enhanced financial and technical support from the World Bank in these sectors. He further proposed the establishment of a regional World Bank hub in Ghana to facilitate deeper collaboration and ensure the efficient execution of development initiatives.
Mr. Zhang reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to Ghana’s development, emphasising the Bank’s strategic focus on agriculture, which he identified as a key priority.
“The World Bank has a strong track record in agricultural transformation and is well-positioned to support Ghana in modernising its agriculture sector,” he noted.
He also disclosed that the Bank is currently developing new initiatives to bolster Ghana’s energy sector, with the aim of improving efficiency, accessibility, and sustainability.
The visit forms part of ongoing engagements between Ghana and the World Bank aimed at deepening development cooperation and promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
