World Bank Vice President for Africa West and Central to Visit Ghana from January 6
The World Bank Vice President for Africa West and Central, Ousmane Diagana, is set to visit Ghana from January 6 to 11, 2025. The visit will coincide with the inauguration of Ghana’s President-Elect, H.E. John Dramani Mahama.
Mr. Diagana will attend the swearing-in ceremony and hold discussions with President Mahama to explore the vision of his incoming government. The talks will focus on how the World Bank Group can align its support with Ghana’s developmental priorities, including prosperity and sustainability objectives.
During his stay in Accra, the Vice President will visit the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and Mausoleum, whose renovation received funding from the World Bank. This site has become a significant symbol of Ghana’s history and heritage.
Mr. Diagana’s itinerary will also include a visit to Kumasi, where he will pay a courtesy call on His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. In Kumasi, discussions will center on the Kumasi Urban Mobility Accessibility Project (KUMAP), a key initiative under preparation to improve the city’s transport infrastructure. He will also visit the KUMAP project site to assess its progress.
The World Bank’s partnership with Ghana dates back to 1957. Its current active portfolio in the country amounts to $4.84 billion across 25 projects spanning various sectors. These include finance and competitiveness (15%), health, nutrition, and population (12%), urban resilience and land (12%), as well as social protection and jobs (9%).
This visit underscores the World Bank’s commitment to fostering Ghana’s development and strengthening collaboration with its government to achieve long-term growth and resilience.
