Ghana Premier League Matchday 6 Preview
Matchday six of the Ghana Premier League promises a weekend of contrasting ambitions — from Hearts of Oak’s push to close in on the top four, to Bechem United’s desperate search for their first wins. Hohoe United will look to continue their fairytale start, while Aduana FC and Vision FC aim to build consistency.
Berekum Chelsea vs Hearts of Oak – Golden City Park, Berekum
Berekum Chelsea are gearing up for a stern test against unbeaten Hearts of Oak at the Golden City Park. The Blues, who battled to a hard-fought 1-1 draw away to Karela United last weekend, their first league point at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium since 2018, are aiming to use that result as a springboard for revival.
Samuel Boadu’s side sit 13th on the table with four points, having scored three and conceded five, but still have a game in hand against Bibiani Gold Stars. Despite flashes of promise, Chelsea’s record against Hearts at home remains concerning, they have failed to score in their last five home meetings (D3, L2) and last recorded a win against the Phobians in Berekum back in April 2018.
Hearts of Oak extended their unbeaten streak to 16 matches in all competitions (W10, D6) after a goalless draw with Heart of Lions. Mas-Ud Didi Dramani’s men sit 5th on the table with nine points, having scored just two goals but boasting the league’s best defensive record, they are yet to concede this season. The Phobians are unbeaten in their last five visits to Berekum (W2, D3), keeping clean sheets in all, and will look to maintain that dominance on Sunday.
Head-to-Head:
Hearts of Oak are unbeaten in their last five league visits to Berekum since 2020, with two wins and three draws — including a 3-0 victory in 2023/24 and a 1-0 triumph last season.
Bechem United vs Vision FC – Nana Gyeabour Park, Bechem
Struggling Bechem United will seek their first win of the campaign when they face Vision FC at home. The Hunters endured another disappointing outing last weekend, letting a lead slip in a 2-1 defeat to Aduana FC in the Bono Derby. With just two points from five games, Bechem sit 15th on the table, having scored only twice and conceded five.
Despite their poor form, Bechem remain resilient at home, unbeaten in their last six league matches (W4, D2) and remarkably keeping clean sheets in all of them. Sunday’s fixture offers a perfect chance for them to kickstart their season in front of their home supporters.
Vision FC head into the tie full of confidence after a resounding 3-0 victory over defending champions Bibiani Gold Stars, their biggest win since joining the top flight in 2024. Nana Agyeman’s side occupy 9th place with eight points (W2, D2, L1), scoring six and conceding five. However, their away record remains a concern, having failed to win on the road this season (D1, L1), conceding five goals in those two matches.
Head-to-Head
The only previous league meeting between the sides in Bechem ended in a 2-0 win for the Hunters last season.
Hohoe United vs Aduana FC – Hohoe Sports Stadium, Hohoe
Newly promoted Hohoe United will look to continue their strong home form when they welcome two-time champions Aduana FC. After a slow start to life in the top flight, Hohoe have bounced back with two consecutive victories, over Karela United and Swedru All Blacks, both at home. They currently sit 7th on the table with eight points, having scored seven goals (second-most in the league) and conceded four.
Coach Tijani Abdul Rahim Bashiru’s men have turned the Hohoe Sports Stadium into a fortress, losing none of their last three home matches (W2, D1). Another win on Sunday would mark a historic third straight home victory in their debut Premier League season.
Aduana FC arrive buoyed by a dramatic 2-1 comeback win over Bechem United, courtesy of Emmanuel Marfo’s late strike. The Fire Club have climbed to 6th place with nine points, scoring five and conceding four. However, away form remains their Achilles’ heel — they have lost their last four away league games and failed to score in their most recent two. Aduana’s last away league win came in March 2025, and they’ll be eager to end that drought in Hohoe.
Head-to-Head
This will be the first-ever competitive meeting between Hohoe United and Aduana FC in the Ghana Premier League.
Swedru All Blacks vs Basake Holy Stars
Swedru All Blacks and Basake Holy Stars lock horns in a bottom-of-the-table clash as both sides seek to reignite their campaigns. The All Blacks, 14th on the table with three points, have endured a difficult return to the Premier League, losing four of their first five matches. Ahmed Ibrahim Fathi’s side have scored five goals and conceded seven — the joint second-most in the league — and will look to bounce back after a 3-1 loss to Hohoe United.
Despite their struggles, All Blacks have shown promise at home, losing just once in their last four games across all competitions (W3, L1) while keeping clean sheets in three of them.
Basake Holy Stars, on the other hand, remain winless and rooted in the bottom three. Their 2-0 loss to Young Apostles last weekend marked a second consecutive defeat after opening the campaign with two goalless draws. Augustine Evans Adotey’s side are the only team yet to score a goal this season, having conceded four. Their away form is equally troubling — winless in their last 20 away league matches (D4, L15) since September 2024.
Head-to-Head
This will be the first-ever Premier League meeting between Swedru All Blacks and Basake Holy Stars.
