IMaH strategically positioned for international maritime community

The Chief Executive Officer of the International Maritime Hospital (IMaH), Dr. Akwasi Achampong has called on the international maritime community to patronize the services of IMaH, which has been designed to be a one stop shop for healthcare.

Speaking on Eye on Port, the CEO of IMaH said the hospital has been strategically positioned to serve seafarers plying the West African maritime route.

Dr. Achampong said, “IMaH is situated in a way that if somebody is sick in the deep seas in West Coast of Africa they will come to Ghana. It is situated in Community Three Tema, very close to the port.”

He said it is also desirable to come to IMaH because it has a helipad which can accommodate helicopters during an emergency flight even though that service has not officially commenced.

The CEO of IMaH said indeed, over the 5 years of operations, the International Maritime Hospital has served sick patients from vessels calling the country’s port including those infected with COVID-19.

According to Dr. Achampong, the fact that Ghana is peaceful and has “one of the best medical systems in West Africa” is among the reasons IMaH is the hospital of choice for the international community including seafarers.

He said expatriates continue to patronize the services of IMaH because of the international standard of services they enjoy at the hospital.

The hospital, according to him, boasts of world class specialists assembled from various health centres across the country and beyond, in addition to state of art equipment.

“If I blindfold you and place you and IMaH and told you after you are in a hospital in New York, you will believe it, that’s the standard you wanted to create,” Dr. Achampong expressed.

He said IMaH has the best range of diagnostic services you can find anywhere in the world including mammograms, sonogram and echocardiogram, among others.

Dr. Achampong disclosed that, “the MRI we have at IMaH, is the highest grade made so far. It is called the Tesla 3. It gives the best imagery. I have worked in a lot of hospitals in the world, and I have not seen that type.”

Dr. Achampong who assumed leadership of the hospital late 2021 praised the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, for establishing and positioning the hospital uniquely to serve the people of Tema, Ghana as well as the international community.
