Cyber Security Authority Warns High School Graduates Over Indecent Social Media Posts
The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has cautioned recent high school graduates against making indecent and irresponsible statements on social media, warning that such behaviour could have damaging consequences on their academic, professional, and personal lives.
In a statement issued on Thursday, September 25, 2025, the Authority expressed concern over a growing trend of inappropriate online posts by some graduates, citing examples of indecent language and troubling intentions, including remarks such as “we go scatter them” and declarations about “snatching people’s husbands.”
“These statements have been widely circulated and are attracting public attention,” the CSA said, adding that while social media is a powerful tool for expression and networking, it also comes with significant responsibilities.
The Authority stressed that online activity forms part of a person’s permanent digital footprint, which scholarship boards and potential employers often review during evaluation processes. Irresponsible online conduct, it cautioned, could undermine one’s academic and professional prospects.
Beyond reputational harm, the CSA warned that inappropriate online behaviour can also expose individuals to cyberbullying, harassment, grooming, and exploitation. In extreme cases, such actions could breach Ghana’s cybercrime laws under the Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038), and the Electronic Communications Act.
The Authority urged graduates to use social media responsibly – as a platform to showcase creativity, promote entrepreneurship, and build meaningful connections. It also called for the promotion of positive digital citizenship as Ghana advances in its digital transformation.
“Graduates are encouraged to think carefully before posting online, remain aware of the permanent nature of their digital activity, and avoid sharing content that is indecent, harmful, or insulting,” the CSA noted.
The Authority further indicated its plans to continue working with the Ministry of Education, civil society organisations, and community leaders to raise awareness about safe and responsible online behaviour.
