President Akufo-Addo Names Transition Team for Government Side

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed key individuals to represent the government on the Transition Team, in accordance with Section 1 (1) of the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845).

The announcement was made in a statement issued on Tuesday, December 10, detailing the appointees and their roles in ensuring a seamless transfer of executive authority.

The following officials were named to the team:

  • Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare: Chief of Staff
  • Godfred Yeboah Dame: Attorney-General
  • Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu: Minister responsible for Presidential Affairs
  • Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam: Minister responsible for Finance
  • Hon. Henry Quartey: Minister responsible for the Interior
  • Hon. Dominic Nitiwul: Minister responsible for Defence
  • Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey: Minister responsible for Foreign Affairs
  • Hon. Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah: Minister responsible for Local Government
  • Hon. Albert Kan Dapaah: Minister responsible for National Security

In compliance with Section 1 (2) of the Act, the following officials are also included:

  • Dr. Evans Aggrey-Darkoh: Head of Civil Service
  • Dr. Nana Ato Arthur: Head of Local Government Service
  • Ambassador Mercy Debrah-Karikari: Secretary to the Cabinet
  • Mr. Edward Asomani: National Security Coordinator

The statement announced that the Transition Team will be inaugurated on today, December 11, following a meeting between President Akufo-Addo and President-elect John Mahama, who will serve as Co-Chairpersons.

In the President’s absence, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare has been delegated to act as Co-Chairperson. Julius Debrah, has also been nominated Co-chairperson of the incoming administration’s Transition Team.

Additionally, under Section 5 (1) of the Act, President Akufo-Addo has appointed former Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, to the Advisory Council. Rt. Alban Bagbin, the current Speaker of Parliament, will serve as Chairperson of the Advisory Council.

Meanwhile, President-elect John Mahama also announced members of his Transition Team on Tuesday evening.

Members of the President-elect’s Transition Team include:

  1. Hon. Julius Debrah – Co-Chairperson
  2. Hon. Johnson Asiedu Nketia – Member
  3. Hon. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey – Member
  4. Dr. Callistus Mahama – Member/Secretary to the Transition Team
  5. Dr. Valerie Sawyer – Member
  6. Prof. Kwamena Ahwoi – Member
  7. Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson – Member
  8. Hon. Mahama Ayariga – Member
  9. Hon. Goosie Tanoh – Member
  10. Dr. Edward Omane Boamah – Member

Additionally, the President-elect has appointed Edward Doe Adjaho to serve on the Transitional Advisory Council.

The Transition Team is tasked with facilitating a smooth and efficient transfer of power to maintain stability and ensure continuity in governance.

President Akufo-Addo in the statement reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening Ghana’s democratic credentials through a seamless transition process.
