Ghana Premier League: Kotoko Takes Top Spot as Medeama and Gold Stars Shine
Asante Kotoko surged to the top of the table with a 2-0 victory over Legon Cities on Sunday. The Porcupine Warriors now lead the league with 37 points, surpassing their rivals, Hearts of Oak.
Kotoko opened the scoring in the 28th minute through Patrick Asiedu, whose stunning strike set the tone for the match. Kwame Poku sealed the win with a penalty in the 88th minute, ensuring that Kotoko capitalized on their home advantage.
Medeama SC showcased their resilience by coming from behind to defeat Bechem United 3-1. Darivin Yeboah put the visitors ahead early in the match, but Kamaradini Mamudu quickly equalized for Medeama. Michael Sarpong then put the home side in control with a goal in the 66th minute, followed by Kelvin Nkrumah’s late strike to secure the three points.
Gold Stars FC also enjoyed a successful outing, narrowly defeating Nations FC 1-0 at home. Michael Nkoah’s 68th-minute goal was enough to keep Gold Stars in contention for the top spots, placing them third in the league with 34 points.
Karela United dropped points after a 1-1 draw against Basake Holy Stars. Alhassan Adamu gave Karela the lead, but Bismark Tayi equalized from the penalty spot in the 70th minute, leaving Karela in the bottom three of the table.
Berekum Chelsea had a standout performance, with Stephen Amankona netting a hat trick in their 3-1 win over Accra Lions. Amankona scored in the 44th, 52nd, and 72nd minutes, showcasing his striking prowess, while David Olubi Akintunde scored a consolation goal for the visitors.
Vision FC was held to a 1-1 draw at home by Heart of Lions, with Kwesi Pong scoring for the visitors and George Nagadzi leveling the match shortly after.
Dreams FC and Aduana FC played out a goalless draw, leaving Dreams just above the relegation zone.
