GPL: Hearts of Oak Stumble in Season Opener, Held to Goalless Draw by Ten-Man Hohoe United

In a surprising start to the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season, former champions Accra Hearts of Oak were held to a goalless draw by debutants Hohoe United at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday.

The match marked the official opening of the new season, but it was a frustrating night for the Phobians, who struggled to break down a determined Hohoe United side. The visitors played a significant portion of the second half with only ten men after defender Solomon Agbasi received a second yellow card, forcing his team to dig deep defensively.

Despite their numerical advantage, Hearts of Oak failed to capitalize, with numerous attempts on goal thwarted by Hohoe’s resolute defense. The draw leaves both teams with plenty to ponder as they look to improve in the coming weeks.

Fans had anticipated a strong showing from Hearts, who entered the season with high hopes following a solid pre-season. However, the failure to secure maximum points against a newly promoted side will be a concern for the coaching staff and supporters alike.

As the season progresses, Hearts of Oak will need to find their rhythm and start converting chances if they are to contend for the title this year. For Hohoe United, earning a point in their first-ever Premier League match is a commendable achievement, showcasing their resilience and determination.
