Ghana Boosts Gas Supply as ENI Infrastructure Upgrade Raises Output to 270 MMscfd
The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has announced the successful completion of a major infrastructure upgrade by Italian oil and gas firm ENI, resulting in an increase in gas supply from 245 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) to 270 MMscfd.
In a statement released on Monday, July 14, 2025, the Ministry described the development as a significant milestone in its broader agenda to ensure a reliable and sustainable energy supply for the country.
“This enhancement in gas supply is a significant step towards ensuring a reliable and sustainable energy supply for the nation. The increased capacity will support the power sector and contribute to the overall economic growth of Ghana,” the statement read.
The Ministry extended appreciation to ENI and other stakeholders within the power and energy sector for their collaboration in successfully executing the critical upgrade, which is expected to ease pressure on power producers and improve electricity delivery across the country.
The increased gas supply is expected to feed into thermal power plants, helping to stabilise Ghana’s electricity generation mix and reduce dependence on more expensive or less environmentally friendly fuel sources.
Speaking on the development, Spokesperson and Head of Communication at the Ministry, Richmond Rockson, reiterated government’s commitment to transforming the energy sector into a modern, resilient system capable of meeting both current and future demand.
He further expressed gratitude to the Ghanaian public for their support and patience during the upgrade implementation phase, adding that citizen cooperation remains vital to the country’s energy transition efforts.
Ghana continues to rely heavily on natural gas as a transitional fuel in its energy mix, with infrastructure improvements such as this seen as key to achieving medium to long-term energy security and economic development.
