EC Chairperson Declares John Mahama as President-Elect of 2024 Elections
Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensah, has declared the former president and flagbearer of the New Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama.
President-elect John Mahama, according to EC Chair, Jean Mensah, won the Presidential Elections with a total vote count of 6,328,397 representing 56.55% of the 11,191,422 total valid votes cast.
This is against the 4,657,304 total vote count – 41.61% of the over 11,191,422 total valid votes cast – garnered by the Vice President and Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Total votes cast were 11,430,531 with rejected ballots being 239,109.
Per the 1992 Constitution, a Presidential Candidate must obtain 50% + 1 vote of the total votes cast to be named winner of the elections and president-elect.
According to the EC Chairperson, total voter turnout was 60.9% based on 267 constituencies.
