Ghana Football Association Introduces Minimum Salaries: GHS 1,500 for Premier League, GHS 700 for Division One and Women’s Leagues

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially announced the implementation of minimum monthly salaries for professional footballers across the Ghana Premier League (GPL), Division One League (DOL), and the Women’s Premier League (WPL) In a significant move to enhance the welfare of players and professionalize the domestic game.

This policy shift follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) during the Association’s recent Congress. The collaboration has already led to the adoption of a standard contract template for professional footballers, successfully rolled out across Premier League clubs.

Minimum Salary Structures Established

The GFA has set the following minimum net monthly salaries that will take effect for contracts signed during the next registration window:

– Ghana Premier League: Minimum NET monthly salary of GHS 1,500
– Division One League: Minimum NET monthly salary of GHS 700
– Women’s Premier League: Minimum NET monthly salary of GHS 700

For players already under contract, these minimum salary provisions will come into effect at the beginning of the 2026/2027 league season.

GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku emphasized the importance of this decision, stating, “This reflects our firm commitment to protecting the welfare of our footballers and ensuring they are rewarded fairly for their talent and hard work. By introducing minimum salaries, we are raising standards in our leagues, strengthening the value of the Ghanaian game, and creating a more professional and sustainable future for our players and clubs alike.”

This initiative is expected to benefit players significantly, contributing to better living conditions and a more robust football ecosystem in Ghana.
