President Mahama Urges Collaborative Effort Between Employers and Workers to Advance National Development

President John Dramani Mahama has urged employers and employees across the country to collaborate in a spirit of mutual respect and understanding to accelerate national development and build a more equitable society.

In a statement to commemorate Workers’ Day on Wednesday, May 1, 2025, President Mahama stressed the importance of unity in addressing the country’s socio-economic challenges, while recognising the indispensable role of the Ghanaian worker in national progress.

“Let us all, employers and employees, commit to fostering a spirit of collaboration, understanding, and mutual respect. Let us work together to create a more prosperous and equitable Ghana, where every citizen can contribute their talents and skills to national development,” he said.

President Mahama lauded the tireless efforts and resilience of Ghanaian workers, describing them as the “engine of the economy” and key drivers of national transformation.

“Today, [May 1], is a special day for our gallant workers. On behalf of the people of Ghana, I celebrate your tireless efforts, dedication, and contributions to our progress as a country and people,” he noted.

“My government recognises and deeply values the pivotal role of the Ghanaian worker in driving our national development agenda. You are the engine of our economy, the builders of our infrastructure, and the innovators who propel us forward. I am, therefore, committed to creating a supportive environment that allows you to thrive and help Reset Ghana,” he stated.

He further pledged to strengthen labour laws, enhance the enforcement of occupational safety and health standards, and promote constructive engagement between employers and workers.

“Government is committed to strengthening our labour laws, enforcing occupational safety and health regulations, and promoting social dialogue between employers and employees,” President Mahama added.

The President’s message comes amid rising concerns among labour unions over job security, wage fairness, and workplace conditions—issues he has promised to address as part of his broader national reset agenda.
