“You Need Toughness and Softness” — Kofi Adams on His Role as Ghana’s Sports and Recreation Minister
Kofi Adams, the newly appointed Minister for Sports and Recreation, has emphasized the need for a unique blend of toughness and tact in his role, following his appointment after the National Democratic Congress’s victory in the 2024 general election.
Taking over from Mustapha Ussif, Adams believes that his selection reflects the qualities necessary to navigate the complexities of the ministry. In an interview with Channel One News, he expressed, “President Mahama was looking for someone with a combination of toughness and softness because you need that kind of tact to handle a Ministry like this.”
Adams outlined the dual nature of the role, stating, “A ministry that must have a military mentality and operate with military precision requires both toughness and softness at the same time.” His comments come as he undertakes a busy schedule, addressing various federations and overseeing a range of sports-related activities.
Since assuming office, Adams has been proactive in his approach, focusing on the development and oversight of multiple sports disciplines in Ghana. As he navigates the challenges ahead, the minister remains committed to fostering an environment where both athletes and sports organizations can thrive.
With pressing issues like funding and accountability in sports management at the forefront, Adams’s leadership style will be put to the test as he works to unite the sports community and ensure the continued success of Ghanaian athletes on the global stage.
