German national team players could earn $390K each for winning the world cup

The German national soccer team is set for a massive payday if it can win the men’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The DFB, Germany’s football federation, will pay players $390,000 each if they take home the title. It’s a significant increase from 2018, when players were offered a little more than $370,000 each though they didn’t win the tournament.

The earnings will comprise of bonuses for progressing through the various stages of the tournament with the biggest bonus assigned to winning the championship game.

If the team doesn’t get past the group stage, for example, players will earn less than $100,000 each.

Despite its generosity to the men’s team, the DFB came under fire a few months ago for refusing to pay women’s players equal to their male counterparts if they scored a Euro victory.

Women’s players were offered $61,000 each, while men’s players were offered more than $400,000.
