Illegal Arms Shipment Seized by Ghana Customs; Investigations Underway
The Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has intercepted a 40-foot container at Tema Port, uncovering a significant cache of firearms and ammunition concealed within.
The container, identified by number MEDU4496951, arrived from the United States and was declared to contain vehicles and personal effects.
However, upon inspection, officials discovered 53 pistols, 74 magazines, and 65 live rounds of ammunition hidden in suitcases.
The seizure occurred on November 4, 2024, following thorough investigations by the GRA’s Intelligence and Preventive Units.
Brigadier General Zibrim Ayorrogo, Commissioner of Customs, confirmed the development, stating that arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing to determine the full details of the shipment and its intended recipients.
The agent and consignees associated with the shipment have been arrested and subsequently granted bail, pending further investigation. This incident underscores the importance of stringent customs inspections and the enforcement of regulations to maintain national security.
