2022 WC Play-offs : Ghana drawn against fierce rivals Nigeria
Ghana’s Black Stars will take on Nigeria in the 2022 World Cup Play-offs.
The draw which was done in Cameroon on Saturday afternoon will see the West-African sides face off in a two- legged tie for a place in the next World Cup in Qatar.
The Black Stars edged South Africa 1-0 in their final group qualifying match to book a place in the playoff while the Super Eagles of Nigeria topped their group after a 1-1 draw with Cape Verde in their final group match.
Ghana is one of three African teams to play a World Cup quarterfinal, in South Africa 2010 and have appeared in the World Cup three times (2006, 2010, 2014)
In total, Ghana has played 12 World Cup matches; winning 4, drawing 3 and losing 5 scoring 13 goals and conceding 16 in the process.
Nigeria has reached the Round of 16 three times, in USA 1994, France 1998 and Brazil 2014. They have played in six World Cup editions (1994, 1998, 2002, 2010, 2014 and 2018)
In total, Nigeria has played 21 matches, winning 6 with 3 draws and 12 losses. They have scored 23 goals and conceded 30 in the process.
Nigeria has lost more in head to head with Ghana’s since the first meeting on October 16, 1950, in Accra which the Black Stars won 1-0.
The third round of the World Cup qualifiers will take place between the 24-29 March, 2022.
