- 2026/27 Ghana Premier League to Kick Off on September 4 as 18 Clubs Prepare for New Season
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially announced the calendar for the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League, with the new campaign set to begin on the weekend of September 4–7, 2026, and conclude on May 28–31, 2027, paving the way for another exciting season of top-flight football.
The fixture schedule was confirmed by the GFA as part of its efforts to keep Ghana’s domestic football calendar aligned with FIFA’s international calendar, allowing clubs adequate time for preparations while ensuring the season is completed on schedule.
The announcement comes after Medeama SC were crowned champions of the 2025/26 campaign, ending a fiercely contested title race. The Tarkwa-based club will now begin the defence of their crown against 17 other clubs aiming to wrestle the trophy away from them.

The upcoming season will feature the following clubs:
Medeama SC (Defending champions), Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko, Bibiani Gold Stars FC, Nations FC, Heart of Lions, Berekum Chelsea, Aduana FC, Dreams FC, Bechem United, Samartex FC, Vision FC, Karela United, Holy Stars FC, Young Apostles FC, Debibi United (Promoted), AshantiGold 04 FC (Promoted) and Port City FC (Promoted).
The three promoted clubs—Debibi United, AshantiGold 04 FC, and Port City FC—earned their places after impressive campaigns in the Division One League and will be hoping to make an immediate impact in Ghana’s elite division.
The GFA maintained its policy of scheduling league matches primarily on weekends, with midweek fixtures reserved only for outstanding matches. The move is intended to provide greater fixture stability, improve player welfare and enhance match attendance throughout the season.
Following the GFA Congress scheduled for August 20, 2026, clubs will have just over two weeks to complete their final pre-season preparations before the league gets underway.
With defending champions Medeama chasing another title, traditional giants Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko seeking a return to the summit, ambitious challengers looking to break into the title race, and three newly promoted clubs eager to prove themselves, the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League promises another fiercely competitive and entertaining season.
