  • 2026 FIFA World Cup: Decision Day for Groups A,B and C as Brazil, Canada and South Africa Chase Round-of-32 Places

The race for the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup 2026 intensifies on Wednesday as the final group matches in Groups A, B and C take centre stage across North America.

With co-hosts Mexico already assured of top spot in Group A and Haiti eliminated from Group C, the remaining qualification places are still up for grabs, setting up a dramatic day of football featuring six decisive matches.

Five-time world champions Brazil will attract much of the spotlight when they face Scotland in Miami. Brazil lead Group C on four points, level with Morocco, while Scotland remain firmly in contention with three points. A victory would guarantee Brazil first place, but Scotland know a positive result could send them into the Round of 32.

Morocco, meanwhile, are favourites to claim three points against already-eliminated Haiti in Atlanta. The Atlas Lions could even finish as group winners depending on Brazil’s result. Haiti, despite their early exit, will be eager to end their campaign on a positive note.

In Group B, co-hosts Canada and Switzerland meet in a winner-takes-first-place showdown in Vancouver. Both sides sit on four points, with Canada holding a superior goal difference after an impressive start to the tournament. A draw would likely be enough for the hosts to top the group.

The other Group B encounter sees Bosnia and Herzegovina take on Qatar in Seattle. Both teams have collected just one point and must win to keep realistic hopes of advancing alive under the expanded 48-team World Cup format, which allows eight third-placed teams to progress.

Group A also promises high drama despite Mexico having already secured first place. The co-hosts will conclude their group campaign against Czechia in Mexico City, while South Africa and Korea Republic battle in Monterrey for what could be a direct route to the knockout rounds. Korea Republic currently occupy second place with three points, while South Africa sit on one point and need a strong performance to keep their World Cup dream alive.

The expanded tournament format has ensured that nearly every team still has something to play for entering the final round of group matches.

With qualification, group titles and possible third-place berths all on the line, Wednesday’s fixtures promise tension, drama and potentially historic moments as the first set of Round-of-32 places are decided.
