The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has refuted media reports indicating that a fake Covid-19 test result was issued to the Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCTFA), H.E. Wamkele Mene at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
This is in response to a statement purportedly issued by the Secretariat claiming that a fake positive Covid-19 results was produced by the GHS for the Secretary-General.
Director-General of the GHS, Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, in a press statement signed and issued on Thursday, April 29, described the statement and the subsequent media reportage as inaccurate.
According to him, the GHS since the reopening of the Kotoka International Airport in September last year, has put in place series of measures to reduce further the importation of the Covid-19 virus into the country.
One such measure, is the mandatory isolation of any individual entering into the country. It is in view of this measure and others, that the Secretary-General has been requested by the GHS to self-isolate for the next 7 days.
Dr Kuma-Aboagye further in statement, therefore requested that the Secretariat ensure that Mr Wamkele Mene, remains in isolation for the next seven days in line with the mandatory isolation period as per the updated Covid-19 protocols at KIA.
