Certain counties are set to be placed on the Government’s ‘green list’ meaning passengers travelling to these countries will not need to quarantine on their return to the UK, unless they test positive for coronavirus.

Portugal, Gibraltar and Israel are among 12 countries and territories people in England can visit from May 17 without self-isolating on their return, the Government has said.

Lockdown restrictions are set to ease once more on May 17, with the return of some international travel for leisure from airports including Heathrow and Gatwick.

Under current coronavirus rules, you can only travel abroad from England if you have a legally permitted reason to do so.

From May 17, passengers will not need to complete a declaration form to travel abroad. Passengers should continue to not travel to amber or red list countries for leisure purposes.

Stewart Wingate, CEO at Gatwick Airport said: “Confirmation that international travel is to restart is very welcome news after what has undoubtedly been the most difficult period in the airport’s history.

“We are particularly pleased to hear that Portugal is on the green travel list and we will have regular flights from Gatwick from May 17 allowing people to reunite with friends and family or enjoy an early summer break.

“However, as soon as vaccination and infection rates make it safe to do so, we need more countries regularly added to the green list if the airport and our supply chains are to rebuild and protect as many jobs as possible.”
