Rockson Dogbegah, President of the Institute of Directors-Ghana (IoD-Gh), has called for the radical transformation of the African Corporate Governance Network (ACGN) which he says has been plagued with several inefficiencies since its formation in 2013.

He is of the view that the ACGN, on the back of it inefficiencies needs a turn around in its operations.

Mr Dogbegah made the assertions during the maiden virtual edition of the monthly seminar series held jointly by the IoD-Gh and ACGN.

“This maiden edition is a good demonstration of Ghana to see a turn around of ACGN which has been plagued with inefficiency since formation in 2013, ACGN requires a radical transformation,” stated Mr Dogbegah.

“IoD-Gh is happy to be playing a key role in the transformational agenda of ACGN formed to promote good governance on the continent,” he added.

Speaking on the theme Transformational Leadership: Unlocking Success without a Leader, Mr Dogbegah opined that it’s about time members of ACGN aim at transforming corporate governance on the African Continent.

This he stated, could be achieved through effective leadership.

“Our biggest challenge in Africa is about complaining, looking to others for support, fear and lacking the appropriate and effective leadership to defect change.”

“We believe transformation is unachievable on the continent but I believe it’s achievable if we believe in ourselves and subject our minds to a serious overhaul.”

“We need to stimulate our minds as members of ACGN and leaders of corporate governance on the continent and provide the appropriate leadership to achieve our goal,” he averred.

Adding ACGN at its current stage needs to break from the shackles of over reliance on the generosity of donors to build the association.

“I believe that if we have good leadership we can achieve our aspirations as an association,” he opined.

“We are supposed to be promoting good governance on the continent, let’s act quickly and the time is now,” he further stated.

The African Corporate Governance Network (ACGN) is a collaborative network of director membership organisations that promote effective corporate governance on the African continent.

It has 19 members and 9 affiliate members from 19 African countries representing over 20,500 senior executives and directors across the continent.
