Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Yofi Grant, took a tour of the state-of-the-art Qatar Airways’ Boeing 787 Dreamliner when it landed at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner of Qatar Airways touched down on the runway of KIA on Tuesday, commencing a four weekly flights to Accra, Ghana via Lagos.

Addressing the media after a tour of the national carrier of the State of Qatar, Mr Grant expressed delight with the decision of the airline to include Ghana among its flight destinations, opining that the move is going to open up numerous investment opportunities for Ghana and the State of Qatar.

“We are very delighted that today the doors have been opened for Qatar Airways to fly into Ghana, what we are going to see next is the investment opportunities being exploited and used for mutual benefits,” he sated.

“There are many opportunities for Qatar as Ghana has positioned itself as a hub in West Africa especially when Ghana is spearheading the African Continental Free Trade Area agreement,” he added.

Also present at KIA, was Minister for Aviation, Joseph Kofi Adda, who asserted that the emergence of Qatar Airways a few weeks of the reopening of KIA signals the confidence gained by Ghana from international airlines amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner features 22 seats in Business Class and 232 seats in Economy Class.

To ensure travelers can plan their travel with peace of mind, the airline has extended its booking policies to offer even more choice to its passengers.

According to the Group Chief Executive of Qatar Airways, His Excellency Akbar Al Baker, the choice of Ghana’s capital is due to its “fame for local hospitality and highly sought after agricultural exports.”

“We look forward to working closely with our partners in Ghana to steadily grow this route and support the recovery of tourism and trade in the region,” he added.

The airline will allow unlimited date changes, and passengers can change their destination as often as they need if it is within 5,000 miles of the original destination.

The airline will not charge any fare differences for travel completed before 31 December 2020, after which fare rules will apply.
