2022 AWCON Qualifiers: Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo names squad ahead of Nigeria clash, Sandra Addo and Elizabeth out 

Black Queens head coach, Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo has named her 22 women squad to face the Super Falcons of Nigeria in a bid to qualify for the African women’s Cup in Morocco next year.

The squad consists of three goalkeepers, seven defenders, seven midfielders and five attackers.

The home-based squad of the senior women’s national team has been preparing vigorously for the tough hurdle with the West African rivals since returning from the Aisha Buhari Cup last month.

And coach Tagoe -Quarcoo has opted to do with 17 players from this home-based core while including five players who ply their trade abroad.

Portia Boakye, as well as Spain-based duo Princella Adubea and Grace Asantewaa, are three foreign-based players who maintain their spots from the Aisha Buhari Cup squad.

There is a return to the squad for Israel-based centre-back Blessing Shine Agbomadzi while long-courted FC Cologne forward Eunice Beckmann gets another opportunity to honour her invitation.

Captain Elizabeth Addo and striker Sandra Owusu Ansah were left out in the 22 player squad to navigate the crucial 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) penultimate qualifying round tie between Ghana and Nigeria.

The Black Queens travel to Lagos to play the Super Falcons of Nigeria in the first leg at Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Wednesday, October 20, 2021.

The reverse leg will come off four days later on Sunday, October 24, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The aggregate winner advances to face that of the clash between Niger and Cote d’Ivoire in the final round of the qualifying series.

Eleven aggregate winners will qualify from this stage to join hosts Morocco at the final tournament which will be played by 12 teams for the first time.
