Hearts of Oak thrashed in Algeria by JS Saoura as Africa campaign ends
Hearts of Oak on Sunday were eliminated in the CAF Confederation Cup after a poor display, losing 4-0 defeat to JS Saoura in Algeria.
The Bechar based club advanced to the group stage at the expense of the Phobians thanks to a 4-2 aggregate score after the tie.
The result also means Hearts of Oak’s Africa campaign has ended without achieving their target of playing in the group stage which is the money zone.
Hearts won the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium with a dominant performance over JS Saoura and failed to convert most of the chances they created.
They were battered on Sunday as JS Saoura drew level in the tie before halftime with goals from midfielder Abdeljalil Saad and forward Oussama Bellatreche.
Bellatreche put a dagger in the hearts of Hearts with the third goal which gave Saoura the lead in the tie.
The fourth goal will arrive in the 88th minute to end Hearts’ slim hopes of scoring a goal which would have sent them through on goal difference.
Hearts’ campaign was utterly unimpressive with humiliating losses in Morocco and Algeria.
They were humiliated 6-0 when they visited Wydad Athletic Club in the second leg of the CAF Champions League last qualifying round after a 1-0 win in Accra.
Hearts of Oak played four games in their Africa campaign winning three and losing two.
Samuel Boadu’s men will turn their focus to the Ghana Premier League after a poor start sitting rock bottom with just three points after four games.
