GACL, McDan haggle over private Jet Terminal at Kotoka Airport

The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) says McDan Aviation has not met its financial obligations to the state-owned airports management company for the conversion of part of the Terminal 1 of the Kotoka International Airport into a private jet terminal.

The GACL in a letter dated January 24, 2022 and addressed to the Minister of Transport stated that though McDan Aviation has met all operational requirements, it was “yet to fulfil its financial obligations to Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL).

“McDan owes GACL a total of US$4,505,034 and GHC 227,293 respectively,” the letter noted.

The letter stated that as part of negotiating a payment plan, McDan paid GHC 1,000,000 on January 19, 2022 but is still yet to agree on a Fixed Base Operator (Private Jet Terminal Operator) licence fee with GACL.

Aside from the outstanding financial commitment, GACL on January 28, wrote to McDan Aviation to postpone the inauguration of the Private Jet Lounge for various security breaches.

The event, however, went ahead and was graced by high profile businessmen, politicians, traditional leaders and others.

McDan Aviation Private Jet Lounge

McDan Aviation’s Private Jet Lounge was officially inaugurated last Friday, and is expected to facilitate the in and outbound travel of business professionals who visit Ghana—Africa’s trading capital for business.

With top-notch flooring, finishing, small private meeting rooms, a spacious conference room, and world-class IT solutions for business on offer, the new lounge is described by the Chairman of the McDan Group of Companies, Daniel McKorley, as the “most sophisticated FBO in Ghana.”

The McDan Group has also acquired three private jets, to be managed by McDan Aviation, to meet the needs of the market in the sub-region.

“I built this facility to create jobs for the youth because I see a lot of opportunities in the sector that we as businesses and entrepreneurs can leverage to alleviate the suffering of our youth in both Ghana and Africa as a whole.

“The idea of a private jet terminal is to target all business players that want to catch up with a short business in the country or close some deals and catch a flight within some short possible time,” Mr. McKorley said in an interview with AviationGhana shortly after the inauguration last Friday.
