- ACCESS Accounts For 95.83% Of GSE Turnover in July 13 Session
Trading activity on the Ghana Stock Exchange surged sharply on Monday, July 13, 2026, as Access Bank Ghana PLC dominated market turnover in a session that recorded total traded value of GH¢289.95 million.
According to the GSE Official List for the 7251st trading session, total volume traded across the market stood at 14.99 million shares, with total value reaching GH¢289.95 million. Ordinary shares accounted for 13.99 million shares valued at GH¢289.65 million, while the Ghana Alternative Market contributed 1.00 million shares valued at GH¢300,330.00.
ACCESS was the clear driver of the session, recording 12.08 million shares traded for a total value of GH¢277.85 million. The stock alone accounted for 80.59% of total market volume and 95.83% of total market value, making it the dominant counter by a wide margin.
Despite the heavy trading activity, ACCESS closed unchanged at GH¢31.90. The counter opened at GH¢31.90, recorded its last transaction price at GH¢31.90 and ended the session at the same level, indicating that the large turnover did not translate into a price movement.
The scale of the ACCESS transaction shaped the entire market picture. Excluding ACCESS, the rest of the market traded approximately 2.91 million shares valued at about GH¢12.10 million. This shows that Monday’s turnover was heavily concentrated in one banking stock rather than broadly spread across the market.
Ecobank Ghana PLC followed as the second-largest contributor by value, with 192,141 shares traded for GH¢6.63 million. EGH gained GH¢0.50 to close at GH¢34.50, representing a 1.47% increase from its previous VWAP of GH¢34.00.
Scancom PLC, trading as MTNGH, placed third by value, recording 367,000 shares valued at GH¢2.37 million. However, MTNGH was the only major decliner on the day, losing GH¢0.06 to close at GH¢6.43, down 0.92% from its previous closing price of GH¢6.49.
Kasapreko PLC recorded 348,003 shares worth GH¢652,788.82, closing unchanged at GH¢1.88. CAL Bank PLC also saw notable activity, trading 779,412 shares valued at GH¢612,589.84, but its closing price remained unchanged at GH¢0.79.
ZEN Petroleum Holdings Plc traded 52,352 shares for GH¢575,872.00 and closed unchanged at GH¢11.00. GCB Bank PLC recorded 8,102 shares valued at GH¢344,337.50, also closing flat at GH¢42.50.
Price movements were limited but positive across selected counters. Clydestone Ghana PLC was the strongest gainer on the main market, rising by GH¢0.21 to close at GH¢3.70, a 6.02% increase from its previous closing price of GH¢3.49. The gain pushed CLYD to its year-high level of GH¢3.70.
Republic Bank Ghana PLC also advanced, gaining GH¢0.07 to close at GH¢4.00, representing a 1.78% increase. EGH’s 1.47% rise added further support to the financial sector, although the broader market was largely unchanged outside a few gainers.
On the Ghana Alternative Market, Intravenous Infusions PLC and Hords PLC both advanced. IIL gained GH¢0.02 to close at GH¢0.30, representing a 7.14% increase, while HORDS rose GH¢0.01 to close at GH¢0.15, also up 7.14%. Both counters closed at their respective year-high levels.
IIL was the most actively traded stock on the GAX, with 1.00 million shares valued at GH¢300,015.00. HORDS traded 2,100 shares worth GH¢315.00.
NewGold was the only exchange-traded fund to record activity, trading one unit valued at GH¢462.00 and closing unchanged at GH¢462.00.
The session’s trading pattern shows a market where liquidity was extremely concentrated. ACCESS, EGH and MTNGH together accounted for GH¢286.85 million, or 98.93% of total market turnover. This leaves only 1.07% of market value spread across all other traded counters.
For investors, the day’s activity reinforces the importance of block transactions and institutional flows in shaping the Ghana Stock Exchange’s daily turnover profile. A single large trade can significantly lift market value even when broader market participation remains modest.
The banking sector was particularly influential, with ACCESS, EGH, GCB, CAL and RBGH all recording trades. Financial stocks therefore played a major role in both turnover and price movement, although most of them ended the session unchanged.
The telecommunications counter MTNGH remained one of the most liquid stocks by value and volume, but its marginal decline weighed on sentiment. Given MTNGH’s large market influence, even modest price changes in the stock can shape index direction.
Monday’s session therefore presented a mixed market picture. Turnover was exceptionally strong, but the strength was not broad-based. Price gains were recorded in selected counters, particularly CLYD, EGH, RBGH, HORDS and IIL, while most listed equities closed unchanged.
The market’s key story was not a broad rally, but a major ACCESS-led trading surge.
For the GSE, the session underscores both the depth and the concentration of activity in Ghana’s equities market. Liquidity can be strong when large institutional trades occur, but daily market breadth remains dependent on whether activity extends beyond a few dominant counters.
ACCESS provided the volume and value on Monday. The next test will be whether the market can sustain turnover momentum across a wider range of equities.
