Accra Sports Stadium at 98% completion – Finance Minister reveals in budget
Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta during the 2022 budget statement presentation yesterday stated that works on the Accra Sports Stadium are almost complete.
Mr Ofori-Atta, speaking on the floor of Parliament said several stadia including the Cape Coast Stadium which looks at aiding the growth of sports in the country are also near completion.
“Some stadia across the country were renovated in 2021 and are at various stages of completion as follows: Accra Sports Stadium – 98% complete; Phase I of Baba Yara Stadium – 98% complete; Essipong Stadium – 90% complete; and Cape Coast Stadium – 60% complete,” he said on Wednesday.
According to the Finance Minister, government as part of its commitment to sports will continue with the construction of the Abiriw and the New Edubiase sports stadia.
He also stated that government will also commence the rehabilitation of the Sunyani Coronation Park.
The 13th Africa Games scheduled for 2023 will be held in Accra.
Ahead of this event Ghana is expected to participate, Mr Ofori-Atta has said that government “will procure sports logistics and equipment and begin the construction of a new multipurpose sports hall, hostel facilities and an Olympic-size swimming pool at Borteyman in Accra.”
Meanwhile, the country is set to participate in the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham next year.
