AFCON 2021: 5 local players named in Milovan’s provisional 30 man squad
Milovan Rajevac has named a 30-man provisional squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament to be staged in Cameroon next year.
The list has some recognition in local football as five home-based players were named in the 30-man squad for the pre-tournament camping in Doha, Qatar.
As reported earlier, Real Tamale United’s captain David Abagna, the current Ghana Premier league top scorer is included alongside Dreams FC duo Fataw Issahaku, Richard Attah of Hearts of Oak and Maxwell Abbey Quaye of Accra Great Olympics.
Coach Milovan has handed call ups to four debutants; Khlaid Abdul Mumin of Vitoria de Guimaraes and Salis Abdul Samed from French Ligue 1 side Clermont Foot, Maxwell Abbey Quaye from Accra Great Olympics and David Abagna of Real Tamale United.
Also in the squad is Arsenal stalwart Thomas Teye Patey who missed last month’s World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia and South Africa due to injury.
Belgium based winger Joseph Painstil has also been handed a call by the Serbian ahead of the tournament in Cameroon.
The Black Stars will begin camping on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 in Doha, Qatar for a 17-day training camp in preparation for the Cup of Nations which kicks off on Sunday, January, 09, 2022.
The Black Stars will play three friendly matches while in Qatar.
The team will wrap up their test matches against African Champions Algeria on Wednesday, January 5, 2022.
Ghana is in Group C alongside Morocco, Gabon and Comoros.
