Africa is capable of organising a successful AFCON – Kwesi Nyantakyi
Former President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi, has slammed the attempts by some foreign media houses to see to the cancellation of the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
There were several reports from some top media outlets in Europe on the postponement and cancellation of the tournament due to the COVID-19 pandemic with disheartening stories and uncalled for interviews with African players.
This action led to many adding their voices to raise high the standard of the AFCON with Arsenal legend, Ian Wright slamming some of the media houses for disrespecting the Africa Cup of Nations with negative coverage.
Other top football personalities such as Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieria, Sebastian Haller of Ajax, Tony Baffour and Cameroon FA President Samuel Eto’o also called for respect for the biggest football tournament in Africa amid the bad reportage.

The former Ghana FA President in an interview on Onua FM on Friday said that CAF can successfully organize the tournament but attempts by some foreign media houses to halt the tournament was highly not acceptable.
“Africa is capable of organizing a successful Afcon but I was unhappy when Europe wanted to hijack the tournament”
The 24 team tournament kicks off on Sunday January 9 with host Cameroon taking on Burkina Faso in the opening game of the tournament.
However, the Black Stars play Morocco in their opening game of the tournament on Monday in Youande following two other groups games with Gabon and Comoros.
