AfriMass Network Launches National Election Conference 2024, Emphasizing Integrity in Electoral Journalism
AfriMass Network has reinforced its commitment to safeguarding press freedom and promoting the integrity of electoral journalism with the launch of the National Election Conference 2024.
Held on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at GH Media School’s Mega Studio in Achimota, the conference brought together leading figures from Ghana’s media landscape to discuss the critical role of the press in ensuring accurate and balanced election coverage ahead of the country’s national elections.
Under the theme Electoral Journalism: The Vital Role of Newsrooms in National Election Coverage, the conference underscored the media’s responsibility to protect democratic processes through fair, impartial, and fact-based reporting.
As Ghana approaches a pivotal election year, the event called on newsrooms to prioritize journalistic integrity, urging them to resist sensationalism and political bias.
Keynote speakers at the conference highlighted the evolving challenges faced by journalists, particularly in navigating the digital media space, where misinformation can easily influence public opinion.
Maintaining neutrality and fostering public trust were core themes, with discussions centered on how the media can better engage young voters and adapt to the shifting dynamics of election coverage in an increasingly digital world.
The conference also served as a call to action for news organizations to uphold the core values of journalism—accuracy, fairness, and accountability. The collective message was clear: the press must play a pivotal role in safeguarding the integrity of Ghana’s electoral process.
Prominent partners and participants in the conference included GH Media School, JoyNews, GhanaWeb, NorvanReports, and the National Peace Council, alongside corporate sponsors such as Mont Water and Zaami Yogurt.
High-profile attendees included Martha Acquah, News Editor at Adom Brands, and Kweku Owusu-Peprah, Channel Manager at JoyNews. Their presence signified the widespread industry support for the initiative and the crucial role of the media in shaping public discourse during elections.
As Ghana prepares for its 2024 national elections, the National Election Conference 2024 has set the tone for responsible and ethical journalism, ensuring that the media remains a cornerstone of democracy.
