Ghana’s new national airline called “Air Ghana” and to be operated by EgyptAir, is said to likely commence operations in the coming months.
This is according to Chief Executive of EgyptAir Holding Co., Roshdy Zakaria.
Speaking to reporters in Ras Al Khaimah, one of the emirates of the UAE, Mr Zakaria noted EgyptAir will provide four Boeing Co. 737-800 aircraft to the new national airline in which it will have a 75 percent share.
The creation of the flag carrier follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between EgyptAir and the government last year, making the airline government’s strategic partner in the creation of the much-awaited national airline.
President Akufo-Addo in his State of the Nation’s Address early this month, announced that cabinet had granted policy approval for establishing a new carrier with strategic partner participation. He however gave no further details, except to say that parliament would be “duly informed on developments in this area.”
EgyptAir, Mr Zakaria also noted, is in talks with Sudan Airways, the troubled state carrier of Egypt’s southern neighbour, for an initiative that might involve establishing a transport hub.
EgyptAir currently operates scheduled passenger and freight services to more than 75 destinations in the Middle East, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas.
