Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen Withdraws from NPP Flagbearer Race Ahead of Ghana’s 2024 Elections
In a surprising turn of events, former Ghanaian Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen has officially withdrawn from the race to become the flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Mr. Kyerematen’s decision was announced through a statement dated September 5, 2023, leaving political observers and party members with much to ponder as Ghana gears up for the 2024 elections.
The announcement read, “In light of the foregoing, I wish to confirm that I am honorably withdrawing from the process that will lead to the Presidential Primaries to be held on the 4th of November 2023.” This move comes after Mr. Kyerematen placed third in the party’s special delegates’ conference held on August 26, 2023.
In his statement, Kyerematen assured the public that he would consult with his family, well-wishers, various stakeholders, and interest groups in the coming weeks to determine his future role in Ghanaian politics.
While his withdrawal from the flagbearer race may come as a surprise, it leaves the door open for potential shifts and alliances within the NPP as the party seeks a candidate to represent them in the upcoming elections.
The former trade and industry minister also extended his best wishes to the remaining aspirants competing for the NPP’s nomination, stating, “I wish all the other Aspirants well as they continue on their journey.” This gesture signals his commitment to party unity and a smooth transition within the party’s leadership.
Kyerematen took a moment to express his gratitude, saying, “I also wish to use this opportunity to express my profound gratitude once again to my family, the Alan 4 President (A4P) Campaign Team, and all my teeming supporters in Ghana and from around the world, who have supported me in diverse ways over the years.” He concluded his statement with a message of faith, proclaiming that “the battle is still the Lord’s, and that those who wait upon the Lord shall have their strength renewed.”
As Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen steps back from the race, the Ghanaian political landscape remains dynamic, with the NPP and other parties preparing for what promises to be a fiercely contested 2024 election. His future role in Ghanaian politics will be closely watched by political analysts and voters alike.
