Mining firm, AngloGold Ashanti has suspended its mining activity at the Obuasi gold mine with immediate effect.
The move comes barely three days after some four persons working for Underground Mining Alliance (UMA), a company contracted by AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi mine got trapped underground on Tuesday, May 18, 2021.
According to AngloGold Ashanti, three of the workers managed to escape when the pit caved in, adding efforts are underway to rescue the remaining worker.
In a statement issued by the mining firm, it noted that safety remains its highest priority hence the decision to suspend its mining activity at the Obuasi mine.
AngloGold Ashanti further stated in the press release that, it will keep the public updated on the situation in due course.
