‘Baby Spain’ ends Italy’s world record 37-game unbeaten run
Spain got their revenge three months after losing the Euros 2021 semifinal to Italy in a penalty-kick shootout.
La Roja got the better of the European champions in a UEFA Nations League semifinal with a 2-1 win in Italy at the San Siro.
The Azzurri’s unbeaten run came to an end at 37 matches.
It had been over two years since their last loss which was a 1-0 defeat to Portugal on September 10, 2018. The streak included all senior national team matches from every official competition, including friendlies.

After missing out on the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, head coach Roberto Mancini led his country to the world record of consecutive matches without a loss after playing 37 games with 28 wins and 9 draws scoring 93 goals and conceding 12 before the loss to Spain.
Ferran Torres’ brace ensured Spain got a sweet revenge over the 10-man Italy and punch their ticket to Sunday’s final, where they will face either Belgium or France.
