BetPawa Premier League: Hearts of Oak lose season opener to Aduana Stars
Hearts of Oak’s Ghana Premier League season began with a loss to Aduana Stars at Dormaa, with the Ogya club claiming a deserved victory in front of their home fans at the Agyeman Badu Stadium.
Aduana had the majority of possession and created the most chances in the first half, but they were fortunate not to be behind as Hearts of Oak’s Dennis Korsah struck the post from inside the box just before halftime.
Just four minutes after the break, a messy defending by Hearts saw an unmarked Bright Adeji score from close range to give the home side the lead.
Hearts stepped up after falling behind and had numerous chances to equalize but blew them all with Eric Esso’s last-minute free-kick effort missing the goal by an inch as Hearts left Dormaa empty-handed.
Hearts of Oak finished the game with 10 men after defender Caleb Amankwah, on his return to his former home, was controversially sent off in the dying embers.
Hearts of Oak play city rivals Great Olympics next at the Accra Sports Stadium as Aduana Stars travel to Kumasi for the clash against King Faisal.
