- Black Queens Blend Experience and Youth as Kim Lars Names Final 25-Player Squad for WAFCON 2026
Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren has announced Ghana’s final 25-player squad for the 2026 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), with a balanced blend of experienced campaigners and emerging talents set to represent the nation in Morocco.
The squad, unveiled by the Ghana Football Association (GFA), follows weeks of intensive preparations, including training camps and international friendly matches, as Ghana targets a strong return to Africa’s premier women’s football tournament.
Captain Portia Boakye leads a squad packed with experience, while key players such as Grace Asantewaa, Jennifer Cudjoe, Cynthia Konlan Fiindib, Doris Boaduwaa and Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah are expected to play pivotal roles during the tournament.
Young talents Sharon Sampson, Abena Anoma Opoku and Linda Owusu Ansah have also earned places after impressing the technical team throughout the preparation period.
The Black Queens head into the tournament with renewed optimism after months of preparation under Björkegren, who has combined experienced internationals with promising youngsters to build a competitive squad capable of challenging the continent’s best.
Ghana has been drawn in Group D alongside Cameroon, Mali and tournament debutants Cape Verde, with the top two teams advancing to the quarter-finals.
The Black Queens will open their campaign against Cape Verde before taking on Cameroon and concluding the group stage against Mali.
