Black Stars of Ghana drop vital points as they draw 1-1 with Ethiopia
The Black Stars’ hopes of making it to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar hang is in limbo after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Ethiopia at the Orlando Stadium in the fifth group game of the qualifiers in Group G.
Getaneh Kebede’s 72nd equalizer cancelled out in form Andre Ayew’s stunning free-kick as both teams shared the points.
Despite dominating much of the opening minutes in the first half, the Black Stars had to wait until the 21st minute to break the deadlock through the Al Sadd attacker.
The goal as a result of a foul on Richmond Boakye-Yiadom on the edge of the box, and Andre Ayew stepped up to find the back of the net.
The goal was the captain’s 21st international goal in 99 appearances for the Ghana Black Stars.
Ethiopia after several build-ups found their rhythm into the game but had to go into the break a goal down.

The Walia Ibex of Ethiopia came into the second half more strengthened and focused, and almost got an equaliser when a shot from the edge of the box struck the bar.
They were eventually rewarded after some sloppy defending by the Black Stars as centre-back Joseph Aidoo lost the ball outside his own box, and striker Getaneh Kebede fired home after being played through on goal.
The draw keeps Ghana second in Group G level on points with South Africa who face Zimbabwe later today.
If the Bafana Bafana who are expected to pick up all three points against their opponents do so, Milovan Rajevac’s men will now need to beat South Africa handsomely in Cape Coast on Sunday to stand any chance of advancing to the playoffs.
