Black Stars goalkeeper Wollacott sustains an injury during training after goalpost struck
First choice goalkeeper for the Black Stars, Jojo Wollacott sustained an injury during a training session with the Black Stars on Tuesday evening in preparation for their AFCON qualifying match against Angola on Thursday.
During a training session with the Black Stars on Tuesday evening, Wollacott had to exit early after a goalpost fell on him.
The severity of his injury is presently uncertain, and it is unclear if it will affect his participation in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match.
The Chalton Athletic shot stopper missed the World Cup due to a finger injury but is expected to start against Angola if declared fit, as he is the first-choice goalkeeper.
Fortunately, the Ghana Football Association, has released a statement to confirm the player has made full recovery and is available for Wednesday’s training.
“The medical team would like to assure the football public that Wollacott will be available for selection as he has been cleared to train on Wednesday,” the statement said.
Lawrence Ati-Zigi, who played in Qatar and gave a positive account of himself, remain the team’s second-choice goalkeeper ahead of Manaf Nurudeen.
The Black Stars are a mission to secure a victory a the Baba Yara Stadium on Thursday, which will see them maintain their lead in the qualifying group before journeying to Luanda for the return leg on Monday.
